Earache happens due to a swelling or an infection in any part of the ear. Several types of earaches exist, such as Otitis Externa, which is a result of an infection in the outer ear, and Otitis Media, which is a result of an infection in the middle part of the ear.
Myringitis is the pain in the ear due to the swelling of the tympanic membrane. Earaches can affect both children and adults. However, earaches are more common in children. In this article we will look for some home remedies which can help you reduce and cure an infection in your ear.
Olive oil: Olive Oil can relief an earache quickly. Olive oil serves as a lubricant and it gets rid of an infection in the ear. In addition, olive oil can stop buzzing sensations inside the ears.
Directions: Take 3 to 4 drops of lukewarm olive oil and put it into the ear canal. In addition, you can dip a cotton bud in the oil as an alternative, and put it firmly into the ear. Also, you can use mustard oil in the same way.
Onion: One of the most readily available home remedies for an earache is onion. The antibacterial and antiseptic properties in onion do a great job in treating the problem.
Directions: Take grated onions and extract from them one tablespoon of onion juice. Now, put it over low heat. Put 2 to 3 drops of the onion juice into affected ear 2 to 3 times a day. Take a fresh onion and crush it. Now, wrap it tightly in a piece of clean cloth. Hold it over the infected ear for 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat this process several times a day.
Garlic: The antibiotic and analgesic properties of garlic can reduce earache which was caused by an infection in the ear.
Directions: Take one teaspoon of minced garlic and heat it in two tablespoons of sesame oil. Let it cool and then filter the oil. Take 2 to 3 drops of garlic oil and put it in the infected ear. In addition, you can use the juice extract out of a few cloves of garlic and put them into the ear, as another option.
Hot Water Bottle: By putting moist heat around the ear which is infected, you can greatly relieve the pain. Just wrap a bottle of hot water in a towel and put it over the aching ear for a few minutes.
Basil: Due to its antibacterial, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, basil is an excellent choice for relieving earaches.
Directions: First, crush several basil leaves and extract the juice out of it. Now, put 3 to 4 drops of this juice in the infected ear. Repeat this process once or twice a day.
Ginger: Anti-inflammatory properties of ginger can be very helpful in ear infection treatment. In addition, it’s a great natural painkiller.
Directions: Take a fresh ginger and extract juice from it. Now, put it directly into the ear in order to get relief from pain and reduce inflammation. Also, you can mix two tablespoons of olive oil with one teaspoon of fresh grated ginger root. Let it to infuse for 5 to 10 minutes. Next, put several drops of the oil in the infected ear.
