America is going through quite a bit of upheaval lately when it comes to social problem in the society. People are very busy, constantly working, or focusing on fun and entertainment as an escape. Therefore, it can be hard to sit down and just think about the problems which we see on the nightly news. Understanding social problems in the American society is the very first step toward a serious discussion about them.

Those serious discussions can help lead to big changes. There are many social problems which should be addressed concerning the social issues in the United States. However, there are some that keep popping to the top of the list whenever the discussion comes up. Health care

Health care reform is at the top of social problems in the United States and the talking point for almost every politician over the last decade. Health care for every person is a revolutionary concept in the country, although other countries have been doing it successfully for many years. Now Americans are in the process of moving toward a system which promises that every person can have the care they need. However, there are many snags along the way altogether with those who are against the idea.

Education

The loan debt of student has become one of the worst financial problems for many, and the education they receive is lacking when compared to the rest of the world. This is true of every educational system in the United States, from preschool to college. Some states are struggling to keep schools open, while they try to find out where all the money has gone. All of us deserve better education and we are all looking to the government for solutions which don’t seem to be forthcoming anytime soon.

Unemployment

The Great Recession took a heavy toll in the United States, which led to many serious issues with finances, employment and even government assistance for many families which fell through the proverbial cracks. Those issues still exist today, as companies try to downsize their employee pool and cut costs, and hard-working and qualified employees find it hard to get a job in any profession, even those in which they are very proficient. This problem is becoming bigger, and the slow pace left many people frustrated.

Climate and environment change

Today, world is changing very fast, and Mother Nature is at the forefront. With the record droughts and floods across the country and all the massive storms which are becoming more frequent, there is no doubt that something has shaken up our planet. However, is there something we can do? Environmental effects must be addressed, which includes everything from the infrastructure of roads and bridges to the fact of climate change, and how it’s affecting everything from fishing to farming. It should also be seriously considered what individuals can do to help alleviate problems for the environment.

Obesity

The United States is one of the unhealthiest countries in the world. In recent decades, the rate of obesity has skyrocketed and shown no signs of slowing down. As a result, people are dealing with the problems which are often related to obesity, such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and other ailments which out a strain on the healthcare system. The prevalence of fast food restaurants which serve massive portions of unhealthy foods that cost less than healthy ones just adds to the problem.
