Look up these milestone movies if you are yet to see them. Check them out again even if you have already watched these flicks a hundred times! Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the imaginarium of Hollywood! Setting up an ultimate list of top ten of Hollywood Movies is no easy task! Still, here you go!

Family and romance

The Godfather trilogy (1972 – ) is iconic. The cold ruthlessness of the mafia, ruled by family emotions, headed by the Godfather, is presented casually. Death is dispensed without a twitch, and it is all in a day. Life carries on, revenge is taken, and family priorities are always on top.

The Misfits (1961) is the swan song of Monroe and Gable. Marilyn Monroe received the World Film Favorite Golden Globe award five months before death. The script followed life in its raw, vulnerable emotions. She was playing Roslyn, a divorced woman, at the same time, her marriage with script writer Arthur Miller was on the edge. Her co-star Clerk Gable died even before the film released!

The lovely Pretty Woman came to theaters in 1990. In this dream romance, millionaire businessman Richard Gere and street woman Julia Roberts fall in love! Very recently, the crew met for a magical reunion!

Surreal reality

Stanley Kubrick’s visionary movie, 2001:A Space Odyssey (1968) takes viewers into a deep spiritual journey nonetheless. The fantasy of the movie was so real that one year later astronauts visiting outer space for the first time compared their experience with that of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

2001 movie, the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnessus saw the best male actors of Hollywood enact one of their most surreal performances. Dealing with the Devil’s deal theme, the movie starred Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell, and Heath Ledger, star as one person, Tony!

War and peace

Second World War movie, the Schindler’s List by Spielberg (1993), starred Liam Neeson in the name role. Neeson played a businessman who was executed starkly in the end on charges of treason. Oskar Schindler’s only crime was that he was trying to save Jews from Nazi persecution.

Played by Tom Hanks in the name role, Forrest Gump (1994) is an amazing film. Forrest loves Jenny from childhood, and that’s about it. He never gets to meet her much though as he reluctantly travels his life in Vietnam, with the hippies, or as a shrimp trader. Forrest narrates his story casually in flashbacks, sitting at a park bench, to anyone who is listening. The only thing that matters is “Run, Forrest, Run!”

Apocalypse Now (1979) is one of the greatest war movies of all time. Set in the battlegrounds of Vietnam, it is the story of ruthless war between a soldier and a god-faking colonel.

Russel Crowe stars as the betrayed Roman general Maximus in Gladiator (2000). The conspiracy to eliminate him takes in his wife and child. He survives and reaches Rome as a champion Gladiator to have his open revenge in the amphitheater.

Sound of Music (1965) is one of the most beautiful musicals in Hollywood. Starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, the Sound of Music is a story of love in times of war. Maria and her family finally crosses over the mountain, free at last from the Nazi oppression.
