Why Do We Dream?

All our dreams are tied to our emotions. Dreams do not come from an “another world” as it was once believed, nor send any secret messages. Dreams do not look into the future or are sign of a prophecy.

The content of the dream is connected with what immediately affects us while we sleep (it’s cold, we hear the noise, we took an uncomfortable position, etc.), or with our past experiences, needs and desires in the present. Because of this, very young children often dream of wizards and fairies, school children taking exams, hungry people dreaming of food, the soldiers who are away from home dreaming of their homes and families, and the prisoners of being free.

All our dreams are tied to our emotions, fears, longings, desires, needs, feelings. If you are hungry or tired, if you are cold, it will come in your dreams. Content of dream is often linked to experiences experienced during the previous day.

There are experts who were specially studied why we dream, what we dream and what is the meaning of the dream. Such experts are called psychoanalysts. Their dream interpretation is not globally accepted, but it is certainly interesting. They believe that dreams are a reflection of unfulfilled desires and thwarted aspirations. In other words, the dream is a way to fulfill the unfulfilled desires.

According to this theory, during sleep our “brakes” are asleep too, so that we can express what we really want. So we sleep through the narrow of our desires that we may not even know we cherish.
