Stand-up comedy is the cruelest of all the forms that comedy has to offer. It is also a tough business to become a part of. Usually, you either hit the stage to perform, start writing, or do both. It can be very difficult to be a stand-up comedian. Stand-up comedy requires the right mixture of timing, writing, and delivery, and if you add tough crowd then you can see why being a stand-up comedian is not an easy job to do. However, if you are exceptionally gifted as the following 5 people, you shouldn’t have any problems at all.

1. Lenny Bruce

Lenny Bruce was the stand-up comedian who took comedy to another level. Not only that Bruce touched on controversial subjects – he was, in fact, controversy. Some very raw and real emotions came from that controversy, which at that time, America wasn’t ready to deal with quite yet. Lenny Bruce had a great determination. He took comedy to another level and led future generations into a place where comedians don’t have to worry about offending the masses. Something that he was unable to enjoy during his tumultuous and brief career.

2. Eddie Murphy

Back in the day, Eddie Murphy was the funniest person in the world. He killed in films, he killed on SNL, and still found time to kill on stage. Murphy was skilled at impersonations and always found a way to work them into his routine. He was hilarious, talented, and ready for the stage at the age of 18. It is a shame that people today know Eddie Murphy only as a doctor guy who can talk to animals.

3. George Carlin

Although he looked like a homeless hippie, George Carlin spoke like an educated prophet of a doomed future. He used to take small things in our lives and explain how those things would end up coming back to destroy our civilization. A lot of people were killed in wars for no good reason. He was a league for himself.

4. Richard Pryor

Richard Pryor fed off hotbed issues such as personal demons and race relations. There were no limits for Pryor and for that reason he got huge laughs on stage.
